We regret to notify you that our special relative, Steven Bernstein passed away on February 25th

We regret to notify you that our special relative, Steven Bernstein passed away on February 25th, only knowing the love đź’•shared by his friends and his family. Steven’s wit and unique personality made him what can be described as a treasure. He gave his best in all that he did, especially with his cars, his music, his work, and most importantly, his willingness to help others. Steven endured the pain of the loss of his beautiful sister at a young age, and more recently, his brother whose brilliance he admired. He went about establishing a fund to pay tribute to Richard’s skills. So if you’re like me, right now, you are reflecting on Steven’s journey, the quick one liners that added laughter, the tranquillity of the music that he played, ok I must, the political arguments and uncensored statements he ranted, but truly because his point was only that he wanted to better the lives of others. The shock of a debilitating medical diagnosis just happened and no sooner did he succumb to its evil. We are grateful that while hospitalized, cousin Ben Wolff had a chance to bring incredible emotion to Steven with the sounds of his playing the cello. Ben has further agreed to play and share that comfort on Sunday, too. To say that Steven will be missed by all is an understatement, especially because the continuance of BFA was in part due to his incredible victory in getting our board an online site. He wanted more from us and I hope, relatives, we are reminded of his goal and stay connected. We thank you, Steven!
Florence K. Rosenberg Obituary

On September 7th, 2023, Florence K. Rosenberg passed peacefully at home in Ceder Crest, Pompton Plains, NJ, shy of her 98th birthday. Florence was born in the Bronx, NY, on September 19th, 1925, as the only child of Gussie Bernstein and Jack Krinsky.
She attended K-12 through the New York PS school system and graduated from NYU and Columbia University, earning her B.A. and M.S. in Teaching and Art. She also studied at the Art Students League for many years and is a Life member.
Florence started her career as a textile designer and became an art teacher in the NYC PS system and then a long-term art and special education teacher in the Boonton, NJ school system, where she retired in 1985. She was also an avid watercolorist and was a member of the American Artist Professional League, the National Association of Woman Artists, and the New Jersey Watercolor Society, where she served as the President of the Society from 2000 to 2002. Her works have been exhibited nationally and won many awards (http://www.memory-fish.com/flo/.)
She married Max Rosenberg from 1956 until his passing in 1998 and lived in Parsippany, NJ, for over 40 years. She was a loving mother to her sons and their spouses, David and Lilly Rosenberg, Burton and Monique Rosenberg, and Alan Rosenberg and Randi Rosenberg, to her granddaughters, Jaclyn, Mika, Samantha, Eva, and Zelda, and her grandson-in-law Matt Hawzen, spouse of Jaclyn, and their daughter, her great-granddaughter Florence. The matriarch of our extended family, she led the call for family reunions and holiday gatherings. Her family and friends deeply loved her, and she will be dearly missed.
A memorial service for Florence will be held on Monday, September 11th at 10.30 am at the Norman Dean Funeral Home at 16 Righter Ave, Denville, NJ, followed by a burial service at the Baron Hirsch Cemetery at 1126 Richmond Ave, Staten Island, NY. We mourn the passing of our family matriarch
NATALIE MENSCH
We mourn the passing of our family matriarch – cherished mother to Alan and Mona, Robert and Reggi, Joan and Cinar, proud grandmother to Kumru and Babak, Amy and Andy, Debbie and Rob, Nedim and Melissa, Lisa and Paul, Carly and Latif, Logan and Abby, and adoring great grandmother to Darius, Juliette, Alexis, Leyla, Zachary, Ava, Peri, Ezra, Isabella, Caleb, Ayla, Fivel and Haqq. She passed away, in her home in Riverdale, a month before her 104th birthday. She led an extraordinarily happy and fulfilling life. Born in 1919, the year that women got the vote, she was the first child of Ray and Irving Bernstein and grew up in a loving home with sister Florry and brother Sheldon, all of whom she survived. She fell in love with her husband Eddie at a young age, and their joyful marriage would last 69 years. She supported her children and grandchildren as they ventured into fields of medicine, business, law, public service, and the arts. She herself was a gifted artist, a watercolor painter. After Eddie’s death, she became impressively self-reliant. She flourished, often hosting relatives over cheesecake and key lime pie, engaging us all with ideas about art, literature and politics. She was a great regaler of anecdotes, a good listener, and an avid reader. She was modest, but brilliant and witty, and remained sharp until the end. She considered her family to be her greatest reward and she was ours. An unknown poet wrote “just close your eyes and you will see, All the memories you have of me, Just sit and relax and you will find, I am really there inside your mind.” Mom, you have made an indelible mark on each of our lives and your voice remains inside our minds. May your memory remain a blessing. For those wishing to make donations in Natalie’s memory, please consider Northwell Health and the Point Program of Westchester Jewish Community Services.
Amazing story:
Love from the Rosenberg/Bernstein Residence
I don’t know why I think this will be as amazing to all of you as it is to me—but it continues to tickle me pink that it is now official—Mika Rosenberg (Florence’s granddaughter and Burton’s daughter) has officially moved into Coby’s apt as his flat mate.
Peoplehood and family work in the most mysterious ways—where they are connecting in Berlin Germany, a place that almost snuffed out Jewish roots, and re-glued a whole piece of the Bernstein/Rosenberg clan that I barely knew.
Happy Wednesday
Risa
New additions:
Jackyn (Finci Rosenberg) and Matt Hawin had a baby girl. The baby was named Fleur. She was born December 20 at 7lb 5oz.
